
COL (Ret.) Fred Stein, Distinguished Principal Engineer, MITRE
COL (Ret.) Fred Stein served 27 years active duty Army in the Signal Corps where he commanded from company though brigade. Overseas deployments included serving in Korea and Germany and s the J6, Communications commanding officer for Operation Support Hope in Rwanda and Operation Enduring Freedom in Bosnia. Served on the U.S. Joint Staff J6 as Deputy J6 during the development of the Network Centric Warfare concepts (NCW) and co-author of the book “Network Centric Warfare.” Over 15 years with MITRE at Ft Hood, Texas supporting the initial fielding of information technology to the first digital Division up to the current fielding of Networks at the Army’s Network Integration Evaluation events . Has published articles on NCW, Agile Technology and has spoken worldwide and served on numerous committee NCW and Cyber panels. Major study projects include case studies on the AF/SOF team in Western Iraq and Urban Warfare. Works on a regular basis to interview Army and Marine commanders and units to better understand how IT impacts mission planning and execution.
