
Phillip Cornell, Special Advisor to the Executive Director, International Energy Agency
Phillip Cornell is currently Special Advisor to the Executive Director at the International Energy Agency in Paris. He is responsible for strategic messaging and speechwriting, as well as political advice to the Executive Office of the IEA. He was previously responsible for simulations and war-gaming among ministries in preparation for major oil and gas emergencies. Before joining the IEA, Mr Cornell served with NATO as the Senior Fellow and Director of International Programmes at the NATO School (NSO) in Oberammergau, Germany. There he was responsible for academic outreach and joint projects, as well as frequent lecturing on strategic and energy issues to senior military officers and civilian policy makers. His policy research focused on NATO and energy security, and he served at committee in Brussels to support the formation of NATO’s emerging policies in the area of energy infrastructure security. Mr Cornell previously worked with DFI International analysing the US government response to major natural disasters, and has held research positions with the Royal United Services Institute (London) and the Center for International Security and Cooperation (Stanford). Mr Cornell began his career as a lead financial analyst for francophone Europe with Dow Jones International in London.
