
Major General Ahmad Al-Mulla Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister,
the Defense Minister at Kuwait Ministry of Defense
Major General Ahmad Yousef Al-Mulla graduated from the Royal Navy College in Dartmouth, England in 1975 where he majored in Naval and Maritime studies. While at Dartmouth, he completed his Midshipman and Sub-Lieutenant (Ensign) training courses. In 1976, he joined the Kuwait Naval Force as a Second Lieutenant. Upon commissioning he was assigned to the Royal Australian Navy for fleet board sea training, followed by a tour with the Royal Malaysian Navy where he earned his Bridge Watch Keeping (Surface Warfare) qualification. His first post-qualification assignment was in Germany, where he served as Training Officer for the Kuwait Naval Force’s Fast Strike Craft procurement project. In 1982, he assumed Command of the fast strike craft, KNS Al-BATEEL while also serving as the Fast Strike Squadron Operations & Training Officer. In 1984, General Al-Mulla was selected to command the Kuwait Naval Force’s Fast Strike Squadron. His next assignment was as the Director of Operations. During this tour of duty he attended the U.S. Naval Staff College (Class 26) at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. On August 2nd 1990, then Lieutenant Colonel Al-Mulla assumed command of the remainder of the Kuwait Naval Force that survived the initial Iraqi attacks. As the Acting Chief of the Kuwait Naval Force, he and his staff led KNS ISTIGLAL, KNS AL-SANBOUK, and supply ship AL-DURRAR against the Iraqis as members of the Coalition Joint Task Force in the war to liberate Kuwait. General Al-Mulla was promoted to the rank of Colonel in 1993 and selected to serve as the third Chief of the Kuwait Naval Force. In 2010 he was appointed as Advisor to the Kuwait Deputy PM / Minister of Defense and continues to serve in this position. In 1995, he graduated from the Senior Staff Course at the Royal College of Defense Studies in England and was promoted to Brigadier General in 1998. During Operation Iraqi Freedom General Al-Mulla served as Commander, Task Force 155. He was promoted to his current rank in 2002. Awards: Major General Al-Mulla’s decorations include the Service Medal with silver and gold clusters, the Kuwait Duty Medal, the Kuwait Liberation Medal, the King Fahad Bin Abdul Aziz Liberation Medal, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Liberation Medal, the United States Department of Defense Legion of Merit, the U.S. Joint Service Commendation Medal, the United States Navy Commendation Medal with Combat device, the French Commander of the Order of National Merit, and numerous other awards. General Al-Mulla was born in Kuwait, is married, and has two sons and four daughters. He is fluent in English and Arabic.
